saturday walkathon

here are some photos from last saturday before the whole halloween madness. deryl wanted to look for some last minute costume pegs (which explains me in a blondie wig. HAHA!!!) and since value village is just quite near our place, we decided to have a walkathon so we can catch up too. we made some pit stops along the way just so i can take outfit posts for you guys :) the good thing about canada is that you can just take pictures where ever and it would look absolutely blog worthy :)

before meeting up with deryl, i went to the gym and finally signed a three-year contract :) i really need to lose some weight because i gained like 15 lbs already...not good :( :( :( i killed myself in spin class and body pump but it will all be worth it when i see the results...i hope! X'd fingers!

i'm off to church now then tomorrow to the of volunteer orientation at the art gallery of calgary then friday i'll be busy working at this event at Hotel Arts:
'tis about time to invade the calgary fashion scene...with a cause! :)
Compassion is Always in Fashion!!! :)
SEE YOU THERE!!! xx

Sunday Style: NCCU Homecoming Edition

This past weekend was spent enjoying Homecoming 2010 with my fellow NCCU alumni and friends. Although the homecoming festivities take place all week long, I was unable to partake in any of the fun until the weekend (the joys of adulthood and working).

Hair: I wore cornrows all week because I knew that once I got off of work I would not have enough time to do my hair before heading out. My cornrows resulted in a big braidout that lasted for the entire weekend.

Saturday Night
NCCU/UNC-Chapel Party
For Saturday night the braidout was pinned to one side for more of an edgy look. To maintain this look for more than one day, I simply slept in a bonnet at night.

Since my hair was cornrowed all week and then worn in a braidout all weekend, you can just imagine the amount of shed hairs that came out on Sunday. I shampooed with Giovanni SAS, conditioned with Suave Rosemary mint, and then styled in two strand twists using shea butter. I am quite comfortable right now. Last weekend is the last time that I plan to wear my hair out for awhile. I don't want the SSKs and splits ends to re-emerge. My goal is to remain in protective styles until at least the first day of Spring 2011.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN LOVELIES!!!
how was your halloween? i hope you guys went crazaaaay with your costumes whether you decided to go slutty, funny or traditional :) as for me, i didn't want to buy a halloween costume set from the stores or online...even in the past, my costumes were just really improvised (i've been a bunny, mermaid and police). so i looked at my closet and wahlah, i am CATWOMAN :) i just donned on my liquid leggings, leather jacket, leather boots and leather gloves and i did catwoman justice...i think :)

anyway, we had a small intimate party at home with a few friends and they came as dora, diego, rag doll, fallen angel, mad max, pumpkin and gothic. charades of halloween movies will never ever fail and of course, some scary movie to end the night!

the next day we all decided to join adaiah as she made her way to sunridge mall for trick or treat. we didn't want to wear our costumes from the night before so we again improvised. i went as a kawaii schoolgirl because that's basically the easiest although i kept my skirt long enough...i didn't want to look slutty because hey, it's morning and there would be kids!

i think halloween is definitely one of my fave holidays.
how about you and what did you wear? :)

Alzheimer's Awareness Month

November is National Adoption Awareness Month, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, National Alzheimer's Awareness Month, American Diabetes Awareness Month, and National Family Caregivers Month

The one that stands out the most for me is Alzheimer's. It's a scary thing to experience with a loved one. Alzheimer's is the most common form of dementia, a general term for memory loss and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with daily life and accounts for 50 to 70 percent of dementia cases. Alzheimer's has no current cure but there is a worldwide effort under way to find better ways to treat the disease, delay its onset, and prevent it from developing.

I am an health educator so I am going to try and incorporate more public health awareness issues with my posts.
