Twist/Twist-out Faux-hawk

Last weekend I went out with the girls and I wanted to wear a fun & funky style that would last. I posted a few days ago that I wanted to try out some "Goapele braids" and that weekend seemed to be the best time to do it so I gave it a try.

I didn't do super small cornrows because I didn't have much time so I would like to try this look again with some itty bitty cornrows. The style was actually pretty easy to accomplish once I got my hair parted into the major sections.

Here's my interpretation:

There is also a YouTube tutorial to go along with this style: 2-N-1 Faux-hawk

'tis the season to parka (part 2)

so as promised this is the 2nd part of the parka edition. if you missed parka part 1, here's the link: http://thegirlwiththemessyhair.blogspot.com/2010/10/tis-season-to-parka-part-1.html

for the 2nd part of 'tis the season to PARKA, i decided to do a lot of layering since it's really getting cold here now! just last monday to wednesday, it was snowing! the weather now is getting colder and colder by an inch! tights, socks, scarves and gloves are seriously on the top of my shopping list now. i think i need to buy my NEEDS rather than my WANTS now. wants can wait until spring and summer...or not ;)

and since i'm just dying to make an outfit post (due to boredom but mostly because i love my readers so much!), i settled for indoor shots, good ol' self-timer and my trusty digi cam. hope you guys like it!

halloween weekend...who are you guys dressing as???

P.S.
shout out to Ash of http://lionslacelattes.blogspot.com/, thank you! you know what i mean ?

'tis the season to PARKA (part 1)

parka is one of the things i'm happy about this autumn ;) i used to dread it because it looks so bulky and sloppy but i guess with the right styling it will be right on. since i love parka so much, i am doing a two part special that features this exact same parka.

this is part 1: when it is not to cold and you can do away without the tights.
last week was a bit hot so it was actually possible to go out without the tights. i wanted to highlight the parka so much that i didn't accessorize much. i wanted it look raw and like it's the only thing that matters.

are you ready to get your PARKA groove on?
PART TWO TOMORROW!!!!

P.S.
i'm feeling sooooooo good this week.
i just made a move that i think changed someone's life...and mine too ;)
it's so nice being NICE, don't you think? ;)
special mention to my nonjudgmental friends aids and eiya xx

October 2010 Length

I trimmed!

I trimmed my ends and the hubby helped me even out the back. It's not perfect but it gets the job done. My split ends and SSKs were out of control!

I must say, I thought I would miss the length but I am loving my hair right now. It's so much easier to handle. I will be bunning all winter and I am looking forward to the length that I will retain over the next few months.

The caption under each pic identifies the line on my shirt in which my hair reached at the time of the pic:

Bi-Yearly Henna Time

My Steps
1. Shampoo (clarifying)
2. Rinse
3. Apply Henna*
4. Rinse, Rinse, Rinse, and Rinse
5. Apply moisturizing Deep Conditioner**
6. Rinse and Rinse
7. Style as desired

After sitting for 3 hours
Henna in ziploc bag
I placed the henna in a bag for easier handling and application. Another perk to this technique is if you tend to have a lot of henna remaining post-henna, you can seal off the cut end and freeze the henna in the bag. Be cautious if you purchase the kind of bags that make it hard to tell if the bag is completely sealed.

I let the henna sit on my hair for only about 2.5 hours. My goal was not color deposit so I wasn't concerned with letting it sit for an extended amount of time.
When it was time to rinse, I let the water run through my hair for about 2mins to help loosen up the henna from my hair and then I proceeded with a normal rinsing technique.
I deep conditioned for about 1.5-2 hours and then rinsed thoroughly.

*My henna mixture used is very simple. 1pkg of Jamila henna and 2c of organic aloe vera juice
**Deep conditioning mixture is AHOSR and Castor oil

[Disclaimer]
Please keep in mind that after researching and taking into account what works for me, the process above is what I have found to work best for my hair.

inspirations for fall

i'm suffering from a major headache right now. my FFM is just non-stop! i've been FFM-ing since this morning. i even let loose and got punk'd! letting loose is just really not my style especially when it comes to boys. i'm like little miss uptight...take it or leave it.

i'm guessing that i would really have to do a lot of layering this week because it snowed again this morning! plus i looked at this week's temperature and it's going to be coooooooooooooold!!!!

leather, cape, leopard, blazer, fur, scarf, tights, boots, sneakers and oooh, metallic is back!!! which one/s are you most excited about?
